The Kenwood Experience

Back in April my business partner, Brian, came across this adorable home in much need of TLC in the High Point Terrace area in Memphis. The owner resides in Nashville and I took a trip out to meet him to secure the purchase. We began to make plans for this home immediately as we were excited to get started because we knew this home had so much potential. The first thing we did is open up the space. Contrary to back in the day when rooms were separated by many walls in homes, families these days prefer an open concept space so that was the first logical step.
We decided to open up the space but also make it warm and cozy by adding some cedar beams. Give it that modern farmhouse look we are all in love with these days. And we were spot on! It made the space look larger and brought in so much natural light! Another thing we tackled was the bathrooms. These were in need of an update and one of them was only a half bath and the washer and dryer were in there so that definitely had to move! We decided to make the half bath a full bathroom by adding a shower and relocating the washer and dryer. Thanks to the help of our plumber extraordinaire who pulled all the permits and made it happen we ended up with a second full bath that simply looks stunning!
The kitchen was another big one to tackle. We took down a wall in order to get rid of the gallery style kitchen and make the space more open so those that are in the kitchen can also see the rest of the family and interact. After all who wants to be in there cooking by themselves? Not me!
Check out the kitchen. Although it was a functional space, we removed the wall and cabinets above the range to open up that space. We did not move the location of the range just opened the wall and removed the cabinets. With this new layout now when mom or dad are cooking they can check out what the rest of the family is up to!
And, of course, the outside got a HUGE makeover. The house has very good bones but we also wanted to show off how gorgeous she can be with a brand new exterior. We decided to go with Sherwin Williams Alabaster white (7008) and make the door black for full impact so we used SW 6258 Tricorn Black. We added cedar to the porch and also replaced the old shutters with new custom made cedar ones. And hello pretty lady .... she looks ahhhmazing! The landscaping is a huge part of this project. I am a big nature person so adding lots of plants is very important. Our landscape architect selected low maintenance plants that also had great impact. And we decided to use pine straw mulch rather than the traditional mulch normally used. Here in the south pine straw is a bit more popular than in other parts of the country. And we were spot on, the pine straw goes very well with the cedar shutters.
We are having too much fun here ..... this team is amazing!
This has simply been an absolute amazing experience in a great part of town. High Point Terrace is a coveted spot to live here in Memphis. We know this house will be a great home for someone very soon!
