We decided to take on another farmhouse project in the High Point Terrace area in Memphis. The home is amazing and has great potential but as most homes built in the 1950s the design is not one of the "open concept" which we all love nowadays. We decided it would be fun to open up the space and add some cedar beams to give it a warm and welcoming feel as one enters the home.
This would involve a fun little outing to the lumber yard where our contractor suggested they had the most amazing cedar beams. And he was right! The smells of cedar overpowered the place and the selection was top notch! As you walked through the place you were surrounded with different sized beams and woods. Some pieces were so impressive with so much character. To keep our farmhouse look, we decided that pieces with greater character and deeper color would go well. We picked out 3 large pieces. These are going to be the "wow" factor as you walk into the home. Two eight foot pieces on each side and a 16 foot piece on top. As our contractor installed them and we came in the next day to view them we were definitely saying, "ohhhh, ahhhh" and it confirmed it was the absolutely right move to open up that space and add these cedar beams.
Next we will focus on designing our farmhouse kitchen. I'm so excited about that! Been working on kitchen layout, cabinet selection and ooohhh that farmhouse sink! What a cute home this will be .... and yes, there will also be shiplap. How can we not have shiplap on a farmhouse home?
Oh, and I did get to handle a chainsaw! Don't mess with a woman with a chainsaw!
